Rowena's Villa, Nr Fiskardo - Kefalonia
A lovely villa set in the village of Matsoukata with exquisite views. Along with the neighbouring Alexanna Apartments, it enjoys far reaching panoramic views towards the island of Ithaka across the channel and down to the tree lined Doliha Bay and the little offshore islet of Daskalio. Legend has it that Penelope used to bathe in the bay, and suitors gathered on the island in order to ambush Odysseus on his return.
The interior is tastefully furnished and with four bedrooms it easily accommodates a large family or group of friends. Three of the bedrooms are on the first floor, including the master bedroom with en suite shower room. There is an additional bathroom upstairs. All of the bedrooms have balconies. There is a fourth bedroom downstairs with en suite shower opening onto the same large terrace as the spacious living area. A fitted kitchen completes this excellent accommodation.
The villa is surrounded by a lovingly tended garden of geraniums and herbs which scent the air. Very few swimming pools have a setting as lovely as this. On one side is an ancient gnarled olive tree, hollowed over the centuries and the lemon tree next to the house is equally impressive, possibly the biggest in the area, it hangs heavy with fruit every summer.
Matsoukata is a quiet backwater surrounded by aged walls, olive groves and the ruins of ancient houses. Old pathways linking all the scattered settlements of the area provide opportunities for wonderful evening strolls. Fiskardo itself is only five minute drive down the hill, passing the enticing crystal waters of Foki Bay en route! In the other direction, the village of Manganos with taverna, greengrocer and mini market is again only two minutes drive on the main road to historic Assos, and the world famous Myrtos Beach.
