Villa Pelagos, Assos - Kefalonia
Private houses in Assos are extremely rare to come by, we are fortunate to be able to offer this lovely house with one of the most breathtaking views you can find anywhere in Greece. Villa Pelagos stands on the south facing side of the narrow isthmus that links the village and the Venetian fortress.
From the outside, an archway, covered in bougainvillea, leads into a welcoming living/dining room and fitted kitchen including a full-sized cooker and a fridge-freezer. The charming double bedroom has an en suite shower, whilst the two equally pretty twins share a shower. The master bedroom, one of the twins and the living room, all open onto a superb shaded terrace bordering a well-kept lawn, a most unusual feature of this area and perfect for sunbathing.
The view is unbelievable, mountains, high cliffs, inaccessible bays running in a great sweep to the south, all above a brilliant turquoise sea fringed with surf. It’s a view that is always changing, as spectacular in the early morning, when the sun rises above the mountains, through to the evening, when all the colours soften and at night when the sea glistens in the moonlight.
The village centre, with a number of restaurants, tavernas and a general store, is just a few minutes walk down the road or a stepped lane. The walks up to Assos fortress and around the peninsula are wonderful.
For a more energetic day out, the old Venetian road can be followed up the mountainside, giving glorious views towards the north. Especially early and late in the season when flowers are in bloom. Chances are though, that most exploration will be done from that shady back terrace of Villa Pelagos with a pair of binoculars!
