Outback Explorer - Australia
Follow in the footsteps of the early Afghan traders and travel the length of Australia’s soul-stirring outback aboard the legendary Ghan train. Tour the sites of Alice Springs and enjoy an Uluru (Ayers Rock) sunset and sunrise plus a visit to Kata Tjuta (Olgas) before boarding the Ghan for the journey to Darwin. Day 1 Alice Springs On arrival at the airport you’ll be met and transferred to your hotel. Gateway to the extraordinary, natural wonders of the Red Centre, Alice Springs is also home to the Telegraph Station Historical Reserve, School of the Air Visitor Centre and impressive collection of Aborginal art galleries. Day 2 Ayers Rock From Alice Springs travel to Uluru, taking in the rugged landscape and hearing about the natural and geological history of the region from your driver guide. On arrival at Uluru enjoy an afternoon base tour and walk to the Mutitjulu Waterhole. See the vivid colours of the sunset with nibbles and drinks. Day 3 Alice Springs After viewing an Uluru sunrise travel to the domed rock formations of Kata Tjuta (Olgas) where there’s opportunity to explore before returning to Alice Springs in time for dinner, around 7pm. Day 4 The Ghan Travelling deep through the heart of Australia, The Ghan offers the perfect balance of comfort and immersion. From your cabin watch the remoteness of the outback pass by before enjoying the company of fellow-travellers over dinner. Off-train excursions in Katherine give the opportunity for exploration. Day 5 Darwin On arrival you will be transferred to to your hotel. The Northern Territory’s capital is a melting pot of cultures laid out under warm, tropical skies. The Mindil Beach Sunset Markets are a Darwin institution and a good place to buy a picnic to enjoy on the beach. Days 6-7 Kakadu National Park & Arnhem Land You’ll be collected early this morning for your Kakadu and Arnhem Land experience. Highlights include a guided walk at Nourlangie Rock, cruise on the Yellow Water Billabong and a 4WD adventure into Arnhem Land. Day 8 Kakadu National Park / Darwin Explore the World Heritage Area of ubirr and ancient rock art galleries, before a Guluyambi Cruise along the East Alligator River.
